Even though dad has passed away, he seems to live on in the memories we have. I feel it every day as I talk with his friends, students, and colleagues. Greg brought so much happiness to everyone around him in his teaching, his playing, his smile, his laugh.

Greg and I did a few gigs together years ago. At one party, the hostess wanted to know if we were brother and sister, we looked so much alike. Greg will always be my brother.
While I am saddened to learn Greg has left this planet, he left it a better place for his being in it. I emailed some memories to James who can share them with anyone if he'd like. Greg will always be a part of who I am. I'm sorry to be so far away (Seattle)and schedule does not permit me to attend the celebration. My husband Don and I will be with everyone in Spirit as we head to Starbucks Saturday morning for a CARMEL mocha frappacino, our favorite new coffee, and lift our cups to Greg's memory!

Does anyone from Greg's guitar class at Saddleback remember when Mark Lopez walked into Greg's guitar class with hunk of melon and a huge knife and offered some to all?? Whoa, dude. It was kind of a Pauly Shore moment...don't ask me why.
One of the funniest moments I remember. Greg would often tell this story and laugh histerically.

As I sit and watch, as if I were belaying you, the admiration for your inner strength...I wonder, would I be that strong? Studying the crux, mapping the route, sizing up the task at hand. Without hesitation, moving forward with confidence and self-assured, all focus on the moment. Every move calculated as if you were solving a riddle, but yet you make it seem so easy...no fear, no excuses...no failure. That smile, the chuckle and of course that funny little statement from some other conversation,(it must be a music thing), and then your through it. I dont't know if it is a conscience thought but you always have to make the task an adventure! Sometimes I think you're the uncle of the Absent Minded Professor! Small in stature, BIG in heart, and TITANIC with the Love for Life. You are an inspiration for so many. You bring to focus "the meaning" in a myopic world. It's not time, I have so much more to learn. I'll never forget you saved my life (mt. sill).

I played in the ensemble back in 02 & 03 under Joe Poshek at OCC. Mr. Coleman came in and sat next to me, in my section, to 'flesh out' the weak parts at a few rehearsals. He even sat in at the concert! I eventually got to see him play a few times, and he directed me to where I could find a few pieces of his I wanted to learn. He was such a wonderful player and I wish I had had the nerve to follow up with lessons. I just never felt good enough.
I was thinking of him tonight, and came upon this info. while trying to look up a way to contact him. My deepest regrets to those who knew him well.

Dad and I spent many years together in the back country, but our last trip in September of 2002 was perhaps the best. Two weeks in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. Drove in through Indian land to base camp and hiked about 12 miles to the grandest riverfront campsite we ever shared. Elk were bugling, the weather was perfect, and the trout were literally jumping into the pan. Little did we know what he was about to face. On this trip to the wilderness, as with so many others, we spent so much time talking about mountain men like Kit Carson and Jim Bridger...courageous men, men of honor and valor. He would tell me stories about these men fighting grizzlies with their bare hands. He told me these stories from a very young age, often from memory he knew them so well. My Dad wrote a note in a book about mountain men that he gave me in June of 2005, just a few months before he passed away. Our experiences and life in the outdoors was a theme that lasted the entire time I knew my Dad... so much so that the note in the book about mountain men was his final note to me. Dad - thank you for giving me such an amazing gift as a love of the wilderness, wildlife, and adventure. Only now do I realize how important and life changing those experiences and stories really were. I am fostering this love of the outdoor life with my own son, who I hope will be able to enjoy it with me the way you I enjoyed it with you. I hope to see you soon.
The beauty of music, the beauty of nature....you seemed to put both together in a symphony of life. I remember how much you loved life and today I think is a day you would have consumed with both hands and many smiles.....The sun is shining thru the california tree branches brightly; they don't shine as well as you did my friend.......its been two long years without your laughter, joy and friendship. I just want to say how deeply you are missed and loved; how much you touched people with your kindness, gifts and concern. You are/were the virtual essence of a true loving friend as well as teacher and one day I hope to meet again in the beauty of the clouds, sky, trees, babbling brooks of "heaven". Thank you from heart to heart and soul :)
